The Christmas Pajama's

We are really a family full of girls; my dad has two brothers, and within their children there are five girls and two boys, all within about a ten year span of each other. Also, my grandpa had two grand-daughters as well right about our age. So we would arrive at Grandma's, and start looking for the flat boxes, hoping to get a glimpse or a hint of what was to come. This was the only place and the only holiday where what we were looking for primarily was clothes. Each year, Grandma would get us all our own pair of pajamas, and everyone would stay the night over at their house, all the girls huddled in their sleeping bags in the basement. Now, they weren't just every day pajamas; most years they would have our names embroidered on them, and each pair reflected both the size, interest and femininity of their new Christmas owners. If one of the girls was really into horses, or Barbie's or Princesses that year, their pajamas would be themed in that realm. Then the parents would go to sleep, and all the girls would stay up as late as we could, laughing and having fun. It was the only time of the year that we were all together as a group. These memories took place in Muskegon, MI, and happened probably 15 years ago for a number of years. |
