Making angel costumes
There is no better time for children than the Christmas season. For children, Christmas is often about Christmas plays practiced and proudly presented to parents and family. If your child is an angel, making angel costumes is just what you need now. While making an angel costume you will need white fabric, preferably cotton, but if you can afford it silk would be a better option. Sew the fabric simply so that it has long sleeves and falls just to the toe of the shoe. A silver sash or belt may be used to tie the dress around the waist line. One idea – just have the child lie down with arms held slightly away from the body and trace their shape/size on grocery store bags (taped together) or a large plastic garbage bag – there, you've got a quick pattern! Bigger is better... it's supposed to be drapey! The tricky part comes when making angel wings.. but here is an easy idea. Light wire is used to make the frame that will hold everything together. You can get it at any craft store. Tie it round to make a circle then twist it to make the number eight. The length of the wire will determine the size of the angel wings, the longer the wire the bigger the wings. For safety reasons, wrap some silver duct tape around the wire so there are no sharp edges. Over the wire put on a pair of white panty hose, one wing for each leg, cut and tuck the extra fabric holding it in place with duct tape. Glitter could be used to give it your precious Angel some sparkle. You can buy glitter glue and make tiny stripes on the costume... or sew some tiny sequins in strategic places (neckline, around or down the sleeves, a small decorative bunch like a corsage).
