Make Christmas Ornaments
Using Construction Paper

Children love to make Christmas ornaments -- so get them busy with paper, glitter, glue and other craft materials. Why not encourage them to make Christmas decorations to trim your tree this year?

It is a perfect excuse to break out your craft supplies and not only will you have a fun afternoon keeping the children entertained, but you will end up with a selection of beautiful Christmas ornaments to trim your Christmas tree.

The great thing about this idea is that you can make Christmas ornaments from almost anything. Most of the items required for them will probably already be lying around your home or are staple products in any craft kit. That means that you do not have to go out and buy expensive supplies.

It is a great idea to keep an eye out all year round for anything that might seem useful and save it in a box to use in crafts. Christmas is a great time to collect crafty odds and ends. There are always scraps of ribbon, wrapping paper and other items lying around at this time of year... don't dump them, save them for next years craft time!

Most ornaments require just a few materials. For example you can make Christmas ornaments from just construction paper, glitter and ribbon in a few easy steps.

Construction Paper Christmas Ornaments: This recipe should make three Christmas stars.

  • Start by tearing 3 sheets of red construction paper into small pieces and place them in your blender.

  • Add about a cup and a half of hot water and leave it to sit for 5 minutes.

  • Prepare a surface while you are waiting by laying a folded hand towel on a plate, covering it with some paper towel and place a Star Cookie Cutter (3 inch size) on the towels.

  • Now pulse the blender for around 30 seconds until you have a thick pulp. Drain the mixture in a sieve to get rid of extra liquid.

  • Spoon some of the pulp into the cookie cutter making sure all the points are filled.

  • Sprinkle gold glitter on top of the stars and use a rag to push the pulp down until most of the water is gone.

  • Gently push the star out onto a baking sheet. Repeat until all of the mixture is used.

  • Bake the stars at 200 degrees for 2 hours.

  • Once they are cooled, glue on loops of ribbon to hang them to the Christmas tree.

This process can be used to make Christmas ornaments in various shapes, consider green paper and a Christmas tree cutter or yellow paper and a bell cutter.
