Family Christmas Traditions: Lots of them!

by Julia
(NY)

Christmas is a special time of year for our family and always has been. We have passed down tradition that my children still love.

We have always gone to a Christmas tree farm, and we cut down a live Christmas tree as a family.

As my children have grown, we now take them and my grandchildren and son-in-laws to the Christmas tree farm and take the hay ride and cut down our tree. The kids, no matter how old, they love to do this.

Now that my girls are grown, we come back to my house and they now (with their kids) decorate our Christmas tree, this is the sign that Christmas is coming.

As Christmas nears, each of my girls (or now their girls) receive a Christmas bear with the year on it that they both proudly display to this day, this has been done since 1995.

Then Christmas eve comes about, each daughter and the granddaughters get a new pair of PJ's to wear on Christmas night so that they are so very pretty for Santa Clause, Christmas is not complete without their new PJ's.

Our girls had to stay in bed up until 5am and they barely could wait that long. When the oldest one left, she returned at 6am Christmas morning with her husband to have our family Christmas with her sister. When my first granddaughter arrived we went to their house that morning. Although I can say that my first granddaughter born on Dec 18 was the best gift ever.

Now both girls are married and one has children. They still return home on Christmas morning to have family Christmas and my girls still receive Christmas stockings stuffed full of goodies.

The famous family breakfast that must be fixed is always prepared as it has been for the past 15 years. After gifts, we have sausage and egg casserole and Christmas morning cannot happen without this breakfast. We share so much joy on this day, the traditions I started my girls carry on, what a wonderful feeling.
