Christmas Decorating Themes
With Christmas fast approaching, now is the time to start decorating and make our homes festive for the occasion. Styles vary. Many families rehash the same decorations every year. Others try to outdo their previous season’s style. We do a lot of entertaining in our homes during Christmas, so why not put a little extra into your holiday décor? If you are planning to have guests stay over during the holidays, consider trying something new. In our case, we have thematic decorations that vary yearly. Once, we decorated our home to look like Santa’s workshop. Another time, we made our house up to be like a life-sized Nativity scene. But it was last year’s theme that’s my favorite by far: we transformed our house into a beach, complete with sand and palm trees, and had a Christmas in Hawaii! The opportunities are endless! This year, we are having a Winter Wonderland theme. We are transforming our living room into…you guessed it…a winter wonderland. We are going to have a lot of blues, whites, and silver as a motif. We are also going to use lots of silver icicles, and make snowmen of various shapes and sizes. We expect to have lots of fun with the kids, as we are going to spend an afternoon making paper snowflakes. Doesn’t this bring back good memories of elementary school around Christmastime? We’d use to fold up a round piece of paper, make snips here and there, and unfold them into unique snowflake patterns. It’s so much fun! Dressing up your home really gets you, your family, and everyone else into the Christmas spirit. Even grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins could come over to join in the fun. This makes it a wonderful opportunity for the children to share in a wonderful family tradition. The grown-ups would enjoy good company, and even have some spiced-up eggnog! Later in the day, we might all gather round for a Christmas movie. We like to watch “A Christmas Story” every year. And gifts! This year, I would like to have a Red Rider BB gun! But then, on second thought, I’d probably shoot myself in the eye, so maybe not.
