Christmas Celebration in Fort Kochi, India

India is said to be a land of diversity. Irrespective of caste and religion, people celebrate Christmas.
I think I am really lucky to be born and brought up at Fort Kochi, which is one of the most important tourist attractions of India. Here there are a lot of Anglo Indians and I think it is because of this reason that Christmas is celebrated at the utmost.
Here Christmas celebrations starts at the beginning of December and ends only by the second week of January. During this season you can see everything connected with Christmas all around. This is the time when a lot of tourists visit this place. This will surely be a memorable time to anybody who comes here.
Even though I am a Hindu, I too celebrate Christmas. We have a get-together in my house on the Christmas-eve. I have three sisters and one brother. So all of us come here and have a really good time which we remember all through our life. Prior to Christmas there is a festival in our temple.
When we meet together on this occasion we write one name each on a small piece of paper and each one takes a paper. On the Christmas-eve when we get together we bring a gift for the person whose name was written on the paper which we had taken. It is really fun when we exchange the gifts.
Then we have extra-curricular activities like small skits, dance, music etc. We have a small Christmas Carol too. One of my cousins dress up as Santa Clause and we really have a very good time. Of course we have Christmas stars all around the house and a very beautiful Christmas tree in the front.
My mother was very good at making cakes and so she used to prepare delicious cakes on this occasion. Unfortunately we lost her last September and my brother is now working in France. Now nobody is at home and so we may not be able to celebrate Christmas as we used to and so these may remain as sweet memories forever.
